Ziggy A. Licwinko

January 26, 1929 — May 14, 2016

Zygmunt “Ziggy” “Zig” A. Licwinko, Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Rockford, died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Bickford House. Born Jan. 26, 1929 the son of Zygmunt A. and Mary E. (Szrajba) Licwinko, Sr. He attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and Harlem High School, class of 1947. Zig joined the United States Army serving in Korea from 1951-1952 and came home to marry his blushing bride, Marion F. Brokish at St. Mary Catholic Church on May 23, 1953. Zig worked 21 years at National Lock, 14 years at Anderson Brothers Manufacturing and 8 ½ years for the Rockford Board of Education. He retired in 1993. He was a faithful member of The Cathedral of St. Peter where he was an usher and volunteer, most notable as a prayer volunteer (also at Holy Family Parish) and as a member the Tuesday Gang. His big event of every year was the St. Stanislaus Polish Fest where he and his family volunteered and enjoyed their Polish heritage. The last few years he was a delivery driver for Lifescape Community Services, delivering hot meals to those in need. He also drove cancer patients to their appointments for treatment. Zig took pride in his volunteer and community work and learned those values as a young boy scout and his membership in the Knights of Columbus where he served as a 3rd degree knight. He was a dedicated family man and had a love for his church and it’s people. He also put a mean spin on his bowling ball, with an average over 200 in his earlier years. He will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; children, Michael Licwinko and Jane Licwinko; granddaughters, Alyssa and Rachel Wilke and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Casmir and sister, Edna (Dr. William) Teevens. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the Knights of Columbus for the support and assistance.
