William Selmo, 89, of Rockford died Friday, June 26, 2015 at Swedish American Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 1925 in Caspian, MI the son of Joseph and Dominica Selmo. Served in the US Navy during WWII on an LST in South Pacific. Married his loving wife Dorothy Wagberg on May 27, 1950 in Michigan and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary and together had 3 beautiful daughters. William was best known as a meat cutter at Jewel and Pacemaker until his retirement. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards, Cubs baseball and the Green Bay Packers. William belonged to the Retired Men’s Club at the YMCA, American Legion and The Golden Agers. He was a kind and caring man who will be missed dearly by his family and friends. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Roy and Mary Weber for always being at his side and giving comfort.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy; daughters, Sandy (Tom) Didier, Nancy Payne and Carol Parriott; grandchildren, Kelly (Bryan) Broederdorf, Jenny (Nick) Oswald, Rachel Payne and Bill Payne and great grandson, James William Broederdorf. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral Mass Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church6254 Valley Knoll Dr. with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:45 a.m. Interment will be held in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a donation to The Golden Agers. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford chapel is assisting the family.
