William R. Crosby

William R. "Bill" Crosby William R. "Bill" Crosby, 62, a lifelong resident of Rockford, died on November 11, 2009 at 7:10 a.m. at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Bill was born December 31, 1946 in Rockford the son of Bennie and Glendoris (Metcalf) Crosby. (The last baby born in Rockford in 1946.)Bill graduated from West High School in 1964. He attended Rock Valley College before it had a campus and spent two years at the University of Illinois. Bill was a US Army Veteran having served as a Medical Corpsman during Vietnam from 1969 1971, and served in the Army Reserve from 1971 1975, and worked as a machine operator for Longview Fiber in Rockford.Bill is survived by his three daughters, Carrie (David Barbour) Crosby, and Lindsay and Stephanie Crosby; grandchildren Dajsha, Alisa, and Nadia Barbour; mother, Glendoris Crosby; former wife, Ruth (Vetterli) Crosby; brother, James Crosby; niece, Glendelle Crosby, and nephews, Robert James Crosby and Corey Flanders. Bill was predeceased by his father, Bennie; brother, Robert; sister-in-law Gayle Crosby; and nephew, Gary Crosby.Memorial services for Bill will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Dr. Murray Hanson, Pastor of Third Presbyterian Church, officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be private.
