William M. Stone, 79, formerly of Rockford, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, in Stoughton Hospital, Stoughton, WI. Born May 14, 1929, in Boonville, MO. The son of Dr. William E. and Manie (Simmons) Stone. Bill attended William Jewel College and graduated from University of Missouri, Columbia, with a BA in Education and Science. He received his M. Ed. At the University of Missouri, Columbia, in Educational Administration. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. Bill taught in and was later Superintendent of Schools of several schools in Iowa and Missouri from 1955 until 1965. He taught Math and Science in the Harlem School District at Marshall Middle School and Harlem School from 1965 until his retirement. He was principal for one year at Hoffman School in Loves Park. Bill was an active member in the Rockford Sail and Power Squadron since 1973, serving in many areas. Bill is survived by son, W. Michael (Gwen) Stone, Madison, WI, daughter, Janice (Joseph ""Bud"" ) Betts, Stoughton, WI; grandchildren, Kevin and Rebecca Stone and Kyle and Melinda ""Mindy"" Betts; brother-in-law, J.B. Black; nephews, Jay, Bill, and Doug Black. Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Sue Catherine Black. Visitation from 5pm until 7pm, Thursday, November 13, 2008, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford, IL 61103 with a time of sharing at 7pm. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Boonville, MO on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 11:00am. To
