William G. Rieker

PendingWilliam “Bill” G. Rieker, 97, Rockford, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Cherryvale Assisted Living. He was born July 12, 1919, in Chicago, the son of George and Esther (Friberg) Rieker. Bill was a graduate of Amundson High School, class of 1938. He was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. Bill married Grace E. Dahlin in Chicago on November 27, 1947. She passed away in Rockford on July 15, 2013. Bill owned and operated the Elmquist Sound and Communications Company for over 20 years retiring in 1996. He was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was active in many areas of the church thru the years. Bill was a member of the Rockford Noon Lions Club for 45 years. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and enjoyed playing golf and downhill skiing.
Survived by his son Glenn (Cheryl) Rieker; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Carol Rieker. Predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Grace, his daughter, Lynn Rieker, his son, James Rieker; and his granddaughter, Victoria Rieker.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 12, 2017, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4700 Augustana Dr., Rockford, 61107, with Reverend Jill Flynn officiating. There will be a fellowship luncheon at the church immediately following the service. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded.
