William E. “Sonny” Robinson, 96
Rockford - William E. “Sonny” Robinson, 96, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born November 15, 1919 the son of William A. & Blenda (Brolin) Robinson. Lifelong resident of Rockford. Graduated from Rockford Central High School, class of 1939 and enjoyed sports. Married Lila Carlson on February 14, 1942 in Rockford, she predeceased him on Sonny worked as a production manager for W.F. & John Barnes Co of Rockford for 42 years retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII receiving ribbons with Asiatic-Pacific (Okinawa) and the Philippine Liberation. He was a member of the American Legion Carlson Post 1207.
Survivors include Kay (Claude) Prentice of Rockford, Sally (Leslie) Seagren of Cherry Valley, grandchildren Michele Nielsen, and Robert and Michael Seagren, great-grandchildren Milan & Sydney, Josh and Ava; nephews Jack and Tom Newman and Bart Thorvalson. Predeceased by parents, wife Lila, and sisters Helen Newman and Maxine Weller.
Funeral service will be held on 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory with a visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park.
