William “Bill” Samuelson, 71, Rockford, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, in Rockford, the son of William and Sophie (Sawicki) Samuelson. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in Steven’s Point and his Master of Science degree from Northwestern University in 1969. Bill was hired as an instructor at Rock Valley College in 1970, to teach physics in the Division of Natural Sciences. He took additional coursework in physics and chemistry and eventually obtained a Master of Science degree from Northern Illinois University in 1981, and an additional Master of Science and Education degree from Northern Illinois University in 1992. Bill served as the faculty president from May 1998 until his retirement in 2001. Bill continued to teach Chemistry as an adjunct through 2005. He was an instructor at Rock Valley College for a total of 48 years and will be missed by his colleagues and friends.
Survived by his sister, Arlene Sims and his nephew, Kendrick Ashton Sims.
Per Bill’s wishes, there will be no services. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
