William “Bill” Tracy was born in Salem, Illinois on July 19, 1944, and died peacefully on February 26, 2023, with his wife and daughter by his side. While in the Army, Bill married his sweetheart, Nancy, on July 23, 1966. Shortly after their marriage, he served in Vietnam. Bill returned home to Nancy and the first of his two children, Diane, and two years later they were blessed again with their son, Sean. Bill spent 37 years working for the Village of Winnetka, before retiring in 2001 from their water and electric department. Bill’s family, faith, and friends were the foundation of his world. He will be remembered as being a hard worker, and as someone who went out of his way to make sure everyone around him was happy.
He is survived by those who loved him most, his wife of 56 years, Nancy; his children Diane May (Walter Fisher) of Volo, Illinois, and Sean Tracy (his wife Tracy) of Palmer, Alaska; Bringing additional joy to his life were his grandchildren Justin (Tara) May, Kyle May, Taylor Tracy, Luke Tracy, Erin Tracy, Jillian Tracy, Katie Joy Tracy, Bridget Tracy and Daphne Tracy, as well as great grandchildren Carson, Cameron and Emery May; he is also survived by his siblings, Marilyn (Jim) Alexander, Dennis Tracy, Linda (Billy) Brasket, Brenda Tracy, and Steve (Leanne) Tracy, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Jane Tracy Sr.
A memorial service will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, in Rockford, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
