Willard James McCoy,89,Rockford, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009, in his home. He was born July 27, 1919, in Dixon, the son of James and Mary Agnes (Vaile) McCoy. Willard married Irene R. Larson in Rockford on October 30, 1948. he served in the Army from July, 1941 until October, 1945. Willard was in the 135th Combat Engineers attached to General George Pattons 3rd Army serving in battles in Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He worked for Rockford Varnish Co. for 38 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Peter where he was an usher over 30 years Senior Citizen Club at SBS and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Phillip (Marla) McCoy, Byron, Kevin (Brenda) McCoy, Roscoe, Carol (Eddy) Guzy, Cary, and Eileen (Terry) Bacher, Rockford; grandchildren, Chad (Cheri) McCoy, Shawn McCoy, Michael (fiancae Brittany) McCoy Mark McCoy, Andrew (Allison Meehan) McCoy, Joseph Schaible, Amanda (Ray) Ignacio, and Matthew Bacher; great grandchildren, Seth, Maegan, Karlie and Andrew McCoy, Abigail Schaible, and Cedric and Angela Ignacio; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Edward, Martin and Donald. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Tuesday, February 17, 2009, in Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St. Rockford, IL 61103. Burial in St. Mary/St. James Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 4pm to 7pm, Monday, February 16, 2009, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N.
