Wilbur R. Dempsey

Wilbur R. Dempsey, 97, of Rockford, passed away April 5, 2018 at Amberwood Care Center. Born November 26, 1920 in Tamaroa; he was the son of Lawrence and Mary Dempsey. He married Carol Jones on January 7, 1956.
A U.S. Army WWII Veteran, Wilbur was a member of Forest Hills Evangelical Church. He retired from Rockford Drop Forge Company after 37 years of employment.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan, he enjoyed golf.
Survivors include his children, Steven (Teresa) Dempsey, Cathy (Michael) Szekely and Lynn Ulrich; and his grandchildren, Michael, Stephanie, and Lucas Szekely and Reagan Ulrich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and 4 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Road. Visitation 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Online condolences may be submitted at fitzgeraldfh.com
