Walter A. "Walt" Williams, 85, Rockford, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Provena Cor Mariae Center. Born August 19, 1925 in Chicago, son of Walter A. and W. Helena Neswold Williams. Married Jean Tennant in Chicago on November 27, 1948. She died October 7, 2005. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Okinawa and the Pacific area during WWII. While he was a Radioman 2 nd Class, he was on the USS Grimes, a sweeper that brought the first troops into Tokyo Bay. He was a route sales supervisor for Mr. G's Potato Chip Company, retiring in 1995. Walt was a loving husband, father and grandfather. A proud patriot, he was a very easy person to like who was kind and thoughtful and in every way a gentleman. Survived by his daughters, Lynda (Patrick) Ryan, Kenosha, WI, Kathryn (Robert) Peck, Racine, WI and Glennys Sunday (Ben Hales), Rockford; grandchildren Sun Hi (Steve), Sean (Dana), Naomi (Tim), David (Jennifer), Brian (Suzanne), Kristin, Allison and Daniel; 6 great-grandchildren with "a bun in the oven" and a niece, Sandra Bates, England. Also predeceased by his parents and sister, Helen Walsh. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
