Walter A. Ewing, 88, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born September 19, 1926, in Aurora, the son of Clarence and Florence (Sweeley) Ewing. He graduated from North Central with a bachelor’s degree. Walter worked as an accountant for Nicor for many years. He married Ruth Komes in 1951; she preceded him in death in 1967. In 1973, he married Patricia Griffiths in Aurora. Walter was an avid sports fan, especially following the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame. He coached Little League for many years. He was involved in the Moose Lodge and with Junior Achievement. Walter enjoyed golf, working outside and was a University of North Carolina Master Gardener. He loved his Golden Retrievers.
Survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Tom (Mary Louise), Dan (Denise), Nancy Ewing Duquette and Jim; grandchildren, Rebecca (Chris) Brokmeier, Mike, Chad, Sarah, Matt, Steve, Greg (Brittany) and Kelly Ewing; Erin (Dan) Duquette Quandt, Megan, Kara and Michael Duquette and Julie (Josh) Parr; great-grandchildren, Elena and Hannah Brokmeier, Carter Castel and Emma Ewing; brother, Micky (Carmen) Ewing and daughter-in-law, Cindy Ewing. Also predeceased by his son, Dave, in 1990.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford. Private family burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Aurora. Memorials may be made to Rockford Rescue Mission or Salvation Army in Walter’s name.
