W. Roger Mayfield

W. Roger Mayfield, 87, Rockford, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, in River Bluff Nursing Home. He was born December 20, 1922, in Joliet, the son of Edgar P. and Hazel (Tiping) Mayfield. Roger married Gladys M. Meyer in Spring Grove on April 22, 1950. He worked as a buyer for Sundstrand Corporation for many years retiring in 1987. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Philippines. Roger was a member of St. James Catholic Church where he was a longtime usher. He enjoyed golf and bowling and was an avid Cubs fan. Roger was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters where he served as an officer in the local and high courts. He was active in the Boylan High School Boosters Club.Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gladys; two daughters, Patricia Nudera of Woodstock and Cynthia (Doug) Zeivel of Palatine; granddaughters, Annie Zeivel, Shannon Nudera, and Megan Zeivel; niece, Cathy Mayfield. Roger was loved by many other family members and friends. Predeceased by his parents; his sister, Frances Manos and his brother, Quentin Mayfield.Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Friday, July 2, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2 nd St., Rockford, Il 61107. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation from 4 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford, IL 61103 with a Scripture Service at 6:45 pm and from 9:30 am until 10:15 am on Friday and the church.
