Vito P. Rotello died Monday, June 19, 2017 in his home. Born December 24, 1946 in Rockford the son of Salvatore “Sub” and Mary “LaMarca) Rotello. Attended Boylan High School and graduated in 1964 and went on to Southern Illinois University graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice and was a member of PHI KAPPA TAU fraternity. After graduation Vito served in the United States Army for two years with one year in Vietnam as a medic and was honorably discharged. After returning home he worked for the State of Illinois as a counselor for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and moved on to work at Cardinal Glass Company for 33 years as a sales representative, retiring in 2010. A member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Men’s Holy Name Society. He was also a proud member of St. Ambrose Club, Lombardi Club, Verdi Club and the Venetian Club. Vito had a gift of making people laugh, even at his own expense. You could find him in the summer on his boat on the Rock River, Chain O’Lakes and Lake Geneva. He was the life of the party and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Vito had many relatives, friends and classmates visit him, which made his last days rich with love, compassion and friendship. Special thanks to Joe (Kathy) Graciana; aunt, Mamie Parrino and her daughter, Maria and Karen Anderson for their tireless help through his very difficult journey. Also, as he reffered to them, the “Angels” in the chemotherapy department at Swedish American Regional Cancer Center.
Survived by his sister, Virginia Latino; nephews, John and Paul (Natalie) Latino and great-nephews, Zachary, Andrew and Nicholas; aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim Latino.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Burial will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation Monday, June 26, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and continues on Tuesday at church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials in his name to Boylan Catholic High School,C/O Advancement office, 4000 St. Francis Drive Rockford, IL 61103. .
