Vita DiGirolamo, age 65, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at her home with her loved ones by her side. Born on December 26, 1958 to Ignazio and Vincenza (D'Angelo) Marino in Marsala, Sicily, Vita immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 10. They settled in South Beloit, IL where they formed a tight-knit community with others who had immigrated from Sicily. In July of 1977, Vita met the love of her life, Joseph, while both were vacationing overseas in Sicily. Joe immediately knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Vita. After one week, he proposed and the two were married on August 18, 1979 at St. Peter Catholic Church in South Beloit.
Vita lived for her family and was always the first to lend a helping hand. In addition to raising two daughters with her husband, Vita worked as an office manager at A Family Chiropractic office for over 30 years. She took great interest in the well-being and lives of the patients she served, knowing their stories and caring for them as if they were her own family.
Vita was an exceptional cook and loved to feed anyone who wanted to eat. Her family would always gather on Sundays for dinner, sharing stories from the week, laughing with each other, and engaging in the occasional kitchen dance party. Vita's greatest joy was being with her family, especially the light of her life, her granddaughter, Nadia.
Above all, Vita was a natural caregiver. She cared for both of her parents through illness and her mother-in-law until her passing. Always the first one to be there for her family and friends without hesitation, she was truly an angel on Earth. Vita DiGirolamo lived her life to help others.
Vita is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters Angela (Daniel) Bradt and Maria (Bryant) Salamone; granddaughter, Nadia Bradt; brother Vito (Caterina) Marino; Nephews Ezio (Sarah) Marino and Albert Marino; great nephew and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Ignazio and Vincenza Marino; and her in-laws Frank and Angela DiGirolamo.
Special thanks to Heather Hartman at Transitions for taking care of our family like her own, as well as to Lacy and the whole team at Transitions Hospice for all of their care and love.
