Virginia P. Fritz, 87
Rockford - Virginia P. Fritz, 87, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Brookdale of Rockford. Born June 27, 1928 in Canton, OH, the daughter of Paul and Cora (Powelson) Nye. Graduated from East High School, class of 1946. She married her high school sweetheart Robert “Bob” Fritz December 23, 1947 in Freeport, IL. She loved staying home being a homemaker and mother to her two children Diane and Don. Later in life, Virginia worked for Dunrite Travel as a tour guide and hostess traveling throughout the U.S and Canada. She and Bob met while attending Luther League together at Zion Lutheran Church. They became charter members of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church where Virginia was involved in women’s groups and served on a number of committees. She loved to entertain and was a wonderful cook and hostess. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren creating lasting memories of grandma making cookies, playing games and reading books.
Survivors include husband Bob; daughter Diane (Joe) Spanier; son Don (Kris) Fritz; grandchildren Andy (Michelle) Spanier, Brian Spanier, Carmen Hoar, Sara (Matt) Bowers, Amy Fritz, Jessica (Joey) Mathews and Joshua Fritz; 4 great grandsons (Jacob, Matthew, Elijah and Alex), and 2 great granddaughters (Kayla and Jenna); sister in law Bev “Jean” Shetley. Predeceased by Parents, brother in law Ron Shetley and sister in law Betty Fritz.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Scott Benokin officiating. Visitation from 6 -8 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory 1860 S. Mulford Rd, Rockford, 61108 and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.
