Virginia Mae Salser, 81, of Rockford, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born August 15, 1935 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Rev. Ernest A. & Edith Mae (Staats) Townsend, She married the former Homer E. Salser, of 58 years. He predeceased her on July 4, 2013. During her life she moved back and forth with Homer between Rockford and Charleston, WV area. She was a foster parent for 24 kids over the years. She enjoyed shopping, word search, and watching her soap operas, but most of all she loved watching movies with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children Jo Alice Anderson and Eugene Salser; 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, brothers Bill ( Carroll) Townsend and Albert Townsend; special foster daughter Kristina Rose Taylor; special niece and nephew Betty & Butch Townsend and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins. Predeceased by parents, son Robert “Bob” Dolin, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice and Auxilium Healthcare Services for all their care and support.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, September 9, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL. Funeral services will be held in Charleston, WV.
