Virginia M. Castanza

Virginia M. Castanza, 90, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Virginia was born on September 15, 1930 in Rockford, IL, daughter of Frank and Lena (Tomassino) Musso. She was a lifetime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she married her husband, Conrad D. Castanza on July 4, 1953. He passed away October 21, 2003. Virginia worked in the cafeteria at Jefferson High School for many dedicated years. Most of all, she enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family. Virginia also cherished many moments that included coloring with her great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her children, Virginia “Ginny” Law and Dominic Castanza; grandchildren, Connie (David) Fry, Dominic Castanza (Chelsea Whitford) and Jake Castanza (Ashleigh Huston); great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily and Lorenzo; numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia is predeceased by her parents; husband, Conrad; grandson, Kenny Law; five brothers, Dominic, Roy, Pasquale, Del and Mariano Musso.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice Care of America, especially Nick, Sara, Cheryl, Laura and Chaplain Scott for their kindness, care and compassion during their time with Virginia.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 with a walk-through visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford, IL 61102. Those attending services must wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Final resting place will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of America.
