Virginia "Jenny" Lee Carey, 81, of Rockford died from Ovarian Cancer peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, November 13, 2009. She was born March 6, 1928 in East St. Louis, IL. She was raised in Macgregor, IA and moved to Rockford where she married William "Bill" Carey on December 1, 1951. Jenny was a longtime resident of Byron where she was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed socializing and family and friends, needlework, and puzzles. Jenny bowled until October 22, and bowled a 178 game. Jenny is survived by her husband William, children Dan (JoAnn) Kittle, David (Jamie) Carey, Douglas (Patti) Carey, Debbi (Duane) Hazzard. Grandchildren Patrick, (Theresa) Kittle, Colleen Kittle, Cassandra and Hilary Carey, Chad and Brian Worman, Ryan Harleman, Eric (Trisha) Harleman and Erin (Nyle) Smith. Great grandchildren Logan, Maddy, Devon, Kayla and Rayna. Sisters Marie Johnson, Karen Gardona, Judy Dettman and several nieces and nephews. Special friends Ron and Sharon OSullivan whom she loved as her own children. She is predeceased by her parents Arnold and Mary (Mel) Kittle, brothers Edward, Earl and Roger Kittle. Sisters Jeannie Sornsen, Sylvia Shramek and Bette Edwards. Special thanks to Dr. Einhorn and the staff at SwedishAmerican Hospice Group and all the wonderful staff at Ogle County Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2009 Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103 with the Ogle County Hospice chaplain Richard M. Fassig officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home.
