Virgil K. Tarnow, 81, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. Born March 10, 1933 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Orville and Leona Tarnow. Virgil graduated from LaPorte High School and Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. He married Judith Mary Marks in Hanna, Indiana on November 24, 1962. Virgil worked as an electrical engineer for Eureka Williams in Bloomington, Barber Colman in Rockford and ECM Motor Co in Schaumburg and Delavan. He was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where he served as an Usher.
Survived by his wife, Judith; son, Gregory L. (Laura) Tarnow; daughter, Mary L. (Carl) Whitehouse; grandchildren, Zachary R. Tarnow, Andrea R. Whitehouse, Justin C. Whitehouse and Chandler C. Tarnow and brother, Larry L. Tarnow. Predeceased by his parents.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2001 North Alpine Road. Inurnment in Hanna Cemetery, Hanna, Indiana at a later date. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Virgil's name to Heartland Hospice, 363 Financial Court, Unit 300, Rockford, Illinois 61107.
