Violet Catherine Schoening

Violet Catherine Schoening, 96, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Provena Cor Mariae Center. She was born July 2, 1915, in Rockford, the daughter of George and Leona (Spiess) Moser. She married Franz J. Schoening, Sr. in Rockford on October 27, 1934. He passed away in Rockford on October 17, 1994. She is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Previously, she was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church. Violet will be remembered by her family and friends for her love and nurturing care of her six children and her lifelong fondness of contract bridge. Special thanks to Provena Cor Mariae Center and Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Survived by her sons, Joe (Kathy) Schoening of Rockford, Fred (Pat) Schoening of Philadelphia, PA, her daughterinlaw, Mary Jo Schoening of Caledonia, her son, Franz (Gail) Schoening, Jr. of Florida, her daughter, Joanne (James) Hallisy of Hebron, and her daughter, Mary Anna (Rudolph) Skul of Downers Grove; 16 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren; her brothers, Edwin (Marguerite) Moser of Rockford and George (Mary) Moser of Durand; several nieces and nephews; and numerous family members living in Germany. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Franz, Sr. and her son, Stephen. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd. with Reverend Edward J. Seisser officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 9:00 am until 9:45 am on Saturday and the church.
