Viola T. Saunders

Viola T. Saunders, 96, of Rockford, died on September 8 at Wesley Willows Nursing Home.nbsp; Vi was born on February 8, 1911 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Raymond E. and Alice (Luke) Farr. Vi attended elementary school in Vinegar Hill, IL and Junior High and High School in Shullsburg, WI.nbsp; She moved to Rockford from Shullsburg, WI in 1929 and married Donovan A. Saunders at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford on June 23, 1931. nbsp; Vi was a homemaker and a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den Mother.nbsp; She was a member of Beth Eden United Methodist Church, former auxiliary member of St. John United Methodist Church and active volunteer at church, member of Air Force Mothers Club, a volunteer at River Bluff Nursing Home and the Winnebago Blind Center.nbsp; Vi was also and avid gardener, bridge player and 500 card player. nbsp; Vi is survived by her two sons, Fred (Kathy) Saunders and Jeff (Grace) Saunders; her six grandchildren, Caren (Jim) Samorian, Robert Saunders, Pamela (Dan) Appino, Bradley (Patricia) Saunders, Brian Saunders and Laura (Chris) Mullin; her six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Samuel, Tressa, Patrick and Madeline; her brother, Delmar (Ruth) Farr; her sister, Doris Spillane; her three sister-in-laws, Genevieve Farr, Alice Saunders and Marion Riddell. Vi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donovan (1976 her sister, Lenice Edwards; her brother, Allen Delos Farr and her daughter-in-law, Sandra Saunders. A special thank you to the staff at Wesley Willows for the kind care given to Vi over the last several years. nbsp; Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Douglas Q.
