Viola Mae Stover, 99, of Rockford, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2009 in River Bluff Nursing Home. Viola was born on May 13, 1910 in Union County, SD, the daughter of Robert T. and Bertha (Tucker) Stevens. Viola married Walter Stover on April 9, 1928 in Chamberlain, SD. Viola moved to Rockford in 1983, coming from San Diego, CA, Lawton, Iowa and Sioux City, Iowa. She owned and operated Stover Stop Cafa© in Lawton, Iowa for six years and was a practical nurse in California for ten years. She was active in the church when she was younger, allowing the church to meet her social needs, was a member of Spring Creek United Church of Christ, and was active for over 20 years with the Center for Sight and Hearing. Viola is survived by her daughter-in-law, Polly Stover; grandchildren, Robert W. Stover, Sarah D. (Phil) Delmont, Cynthia A. (David) Carlyle, Jeffrey M. (Carol) Stover, and Anthony T. (Katy) Stover; great-grandchildren, Danielle (Jeremy) Warner, Ashleigh Delmont, Ethan Delmont, Elizabeth Henning, Benjamin Henning, Olivia Stover, Munroe Stover, and Siale Stover, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Viola was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Walter (1968 her son, Robert C. Stover; two sisters, Eunice Stevens and Amelia McInich, and her brother Theodore Stevens. A memorial service for Viola will be held on Saturday, August 8. 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Spring Creek United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Michael O. Simmons, Pastor officiating. Burial will private in Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring Creek United Church of Christ, 4500 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford, IL 61114 or the Center for Sight and Hearing, 8038 Macintosh Lane, Rockford, IL 61107.
