VINCENZA ALTAMORE, 82 ROCKFORD - Vincenza Altamore 82, of Rockford passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. Vincenza was born March 1, 1939 in Chiusa Sclafani, Italy, on the island of Sicily. The daughter of Andrea and Concetta Prosperini. She attended school in Sicily and moved to Tuscany as a teenager where she met the love of her life, Agostino Altamore. They were married on April 24, 1955 in Gabbro Italy, where they lived with their two sons Albert and Joe until they moved to Rockford, Illinois June 22, 1968. Vincenza’s first job was at Nelson Knitting in South Rockford. In early 1980s Vincenza and Agostino purchased Paesano’s Italian Restaurant located at 1401 North Main Street in Rockford, Illinois, which they operated for 20 years. Vincenza loved cooking and regularly prepared dishes with the products that came from their garden. Above all Vincenza loved time with her family. It was a daily occurrence for Vincenza to speak not only with her children but also with her sister-in-laws, niece and friends. Survivors include sons, Albert (Antonietta) and Joe (Antonia); grandchildren, Agostino A. (Ashley), Giuseppe (Lauren), Vincenza (Nicholas) Becker, Agostino G. (Kristen) and Rosa (Frankie) Ventre; great grand-children, Angelo, Julianna, Albert, Luca, Joanna, Frankie, Alessia, Giuseppe F. ,Austin, and Giuseppe A.; sisters, Titina Tigani and Teresa Cioni; sisters-in-law, Parma Prosperini, Antonina Pace and Ignazina Altamore; brother-in-law, Nick (Nancy); nieces and nephews, Nunzio (Roxanne) Lena and children Joey and David, Alberto F. (Linda) Altamore and son Joey, Piera Lena, Alberto Altamore and children Francesco, Zizi and Marco, Toni (Jeff) Jones and children Piero, Francesco and Gina, Nunzio Pace, Rosa Pace and children Francesco and Mariano, Albert Altamore and children Zoe and Nicolo, Toni Altamore, Andrea Prosperini, Giovanna (Cristiano) Fancelli, Mariangela (Luca) Turini, and niece Annamaria Filippi. Vincenza was predeceased by her husband, Agostino Altamore, her parents, Andrea and Concetta Prosperini, her grandparents, Salvatore and Maria Campo, her sister, Michelina Bellissimo, her brother, Giuseppe Prosperini, her aunt, Carmela Grillo (Prosperini), her brothers-in-law, Mariano Pace, Joe Altamore, Frank Altamore, Giuseppe Lena and Irio Cioni, her sisters-in-law, Leonora Altamore, Maria Lena, and her niece Antonia Altamore.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:30 - 7:30pm with a Rosary at 7:30pm on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
