Vincent O. Cropp, 92, of Rockford passed away Friday, November 17, 2017. Born February 17, 1925, in Albany, Illinois, the son of Ortho and Kathleen Cropp. Vincent graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1943. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II on a destroyer escort. Vincent married Frances Bolger on January 18, 1947, in Rockford. He built his own home for his family. Vincent was a Foreman at Essex Wire for many years until purchased Lake Ripley Marina in 1966, which he sold in 1986. He was in every respect a self-made man who worked hard his entire life.
Vincent is survived by his daughters, Kitty Malmquist and Terry (Joe) Peters; son, Michael (Patti) Cropp; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Milt Cropp and Ron (Barb) Cropp; sister, Betty (Wayne) Gable; numerous nieces and nephews and his special lady, Jeanne Gander. Predeceased by his wife, Fran, parents, Ortho and Kathleen, sons, Billy Cropp and Dan Cropp, daughter, Betty Raether, son-in-law, Duane Malmquist, sisters, Lois Alms, Evelyn Alms, Juanita Metters and Cathy Johnson, grandson, Jason Cropp and great-grandson, David Panzer.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road.
