Victor Niles Benson III

Victor Niles Benson III, 80, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

Victor was born in Joliet, Illinois on December 19, 1943, the son of Victor and Clara (Babich) Benson. He graduated from Lockport Township High School, Class of 1961. Victor went on to attend Illinois Institute of Technology, earning his MBA in mechanical engineering remotely while working at Sundstrand.

Victor married Patricia Ann Gayan on January 22, 1966. He proudly dedicated his career as a mechanical engineer, section manager and had several patents with Sundstrand, retiring after 34 years. Victor was a longtime member of St. Rita Catholic Church of Rockford. He was also a member of the Northern Illinois Rifle and Pistol Club where he instructed gun safety courses and mentored many other members over the years. Victor enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for photography and took arial photos of the Roy Gale baseball fields. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Victor loved spending time with family and attending various events for his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. 

Victor is survived by his wife, Patricia Benson; 3 sons, Victor Benson, Doug (Tracy) Benson and David (Amy) Benson; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria Benson, Layna Hughes and Olya Check; great-grandchildren, Donnie, Liberty, Alexander, Brady and Bristol; siblings, James (Debra) Benson, Pat Dzuiban and numerous nieces. Victor is predeceased by his parents.
