Veronica M. Romkowske Jensen

Veronica M. Romkowske Jensen, 91, Rockford, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Provena Cor Mariae Center. Born October 27, 1917 in Bismarck, ND, daughter of Christopher and Magdalen (Bartole) Fritz. Married Joseph A. Romkowske May of 1947 in Chicago. He died in 1962. She then married Paul Jensen in 1979 and he predeceased her in 1990. Member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg, IL. Employed by the United States Postal Service. She was a Postal Clerk for the North Suburban Branch in Chicago and retired from the Crystal Lake Post Office in 1982. She bowled for many years on several leagues and volunteered for the Food Pantry in McHenry. Veronica was a very independent, hard working woman who always had a smile on her face. Survivors include her son, Burke (Linda) Romkowske, Rockford; grandchildren, Laura Kirschmann, S/Sgt. Thomas (Andrea) Romkowske, USMC and Pfc. Brian Romkowske, USMC; great- grandchildren, Hailee, Abigail and Elyse Romkowske and Katherine Kirschmann. Also survived by her sisters, Magdalen Fritz and Mary Smith; sister-in-law, Mildred Fritz, numerous nieces and nephews; 7 step children and numerous step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. Also predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth, Susan, Georgette and an infant sister and her brother, Joseph. Funeral Mass at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the chapel of Provena Cor Mariae Center with Rev. John L. Stringini officiating. Visitation from 9:45 a.m. until time of the Mass on Saturday. Private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
