VANCE LEE SUNDBERG (CHICK), 72 Vance Sundberg, 72, Belvidere, died at 11:28 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2007 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born October 30. 1934 in Polk, Nebraska, son of Lawrence and Julia Stevens Sundberg. Graduated from Rockford East High School, class of 1952. Married Kathleen Murphy on May 14, 1955 in Cherry Valley United Methodist Church. Vance was a Cherry Valley resident for nearly 50 years before moving to Belvidere in 2003. He was employed at Cardinal Glass Company for many years and was the founder and owner of Chicks Ability Glass Service. Upon retirement in November 1995 he worked part time for Joseph Behr & Sons, Inc. and Sandy Hollow Golf Course. He was a charter member of the Rockford DRAG-ONS Club, 40 year member of Glaziers Local 1355, 50 year member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, member of the Rockford Navy Club, American Legion Boone Post 77 and Bel-Mar Country Club. Special thank you to the ""Angel"" nurses on 400 West Oncology floor at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen, Belvidere; son, Jeffrey (Marybeth) Sundberg, Rockford, granddaughters, Kelsey Elizabeth Sundberg and Riley Kathleen Sundberg; sister, Geanelle (John) Schultz, Rockford; sisters-in-law, Pat (Bill) Gorsuch, Belvidere, Sally (Ron) Hollembeak, Cherry Valley, Mary Erickson, Cherry Valley; brothers-in-law, Terry (Sherry) Murphy, Cherry Valley and Tim (Connie) Murphy, Kirkland. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and his godchildren. Predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law, Robert and Lola Murphy. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 in Cherry Valley United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Rethford and Rev. Dr. Richard Wang officiating. Visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church or the Cherry Valley District Library. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
