Ursula F Steinhagen

Ursula F. Steinhagen, 80, of Rockford, passed away August 2, 2017 at Swedish American Hospital. Ursula was born September 2, 1936 in Hamburg, Germany, to Georg W.K. & Irmgard E.L (Huff) Frahm. While in Germany she worked as a kindergarten teacher, caring for undernourished children. She was married to Horst Steinhagen on November 10, 1956 in Kiel, Germany. Together, they moved to the United States in 1959, and raised their daughters in Racine, WI and Belgium. Ursula and Horst finally settled in Rockford, IL in 1982.
Ursula displayed her generosity through volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine and Alma Nelson in Rockford. Throughout her life, Ursula’s love for children never dulled, and children were naturally drawn to her. In addition to her sweet personality, she was very smart. Ursula demonstrated this through teaching herself English completely by watching television shows like I Love Lucy and Lawrence Welk. Ursula and Horst’s love for travel took them across the globe; however, Ursula’s favorite vacation always remained the Steinhagen family reunion at Red Cedar Lake. Her sense of humor kept those around her young and entertained. Most importantly, Ursula was a kind, caring, and generous woman with a beautiful spirit, and for this she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include husband Horst; daughters Elke (Steve) Nelson and Linda E. (Mark) Klemm; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and sister Renate Domnick. Predeceased by brother Werner Frahm.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL. 61108. Visitation from 10 am until time of service.
