Trudy. D. Styles, 73, Rockton, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in Mercy Health Hospital while being held in the arms of her husband. Born June 9, 1944 in Oregon, IL, daughter of George and Virginia Ward Reints. She graduated from West High School in 1962, attended Illinois State University and studied business at Rock Valley College. She was a resource to the younger students while studying there and invented and received a copyright for her Lemonade Stand Game. Trudy married Gilbert Owen Styles, Jr. on September 28, 1963 at Third Presbyterian Church where they were members. She was employed at Weise’s when they met and later worked at Union Hall and at other companies. Trudy became lifelong friends with many of her coworkers. While she studied and worked she also cared for her husband, her children, and her family and friends.
Trudy was a cancer survivor of 29 years. During her fight with ovarian and breast cancer her faith and her love and support for everyone never wavered. She cheerfully sacrificed her own wants and needs to help her children, grandchildren, her family, and everyone who knew her. Trudy was a very talented and generous quilter and crafter. She was very proud that she made many fine purses and other crafts sold in the gift shop of the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts and gifted many others. Trudy loved using her talents to make beautiful things for her family and friends. Every stitch, every little gift, every smile for everyone, was overflowing with her love. She received special joy in helping and being with her Great Nephews Kaleb and Austin, and her Great Nieces Allison, Ariana, and Natalie her patience, love and understanding were boundless.
Survivors include her husband, Gilbert; sons, Gerald Owen (Tami Jurgens) Styles, Littleton, CO and Gregory Owen Styles, Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Logan Styles, Lorena Hunter and Samantha Styles; sisters, Dawn (Larry) Bergquist, Rockford, Lisa (Jim) Young, Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Debbie Reints, Belvidere, IL; and her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by her parents and brother, Gary A. Reints.
A memorial service to celebrate Trudy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev.
