TREFLE P. HARNOIS, 87

ROCKFORD - Trefle P. Harnois, 87, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born April 3, 1927, in Detroit, MI, only child of Napolean P. and Flora (Osterbeck) Harnois. Served in the US Army during WWII, European Theater. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Chandler, the same day he graduated from Hillsdale College, on June 3, 1951. He was the Vice President for ClarCor, formally J.L Clark, retiring in 1991, after forty years of service. Trefle was a community leader and major supporter of Rockford, serving on numerous boards, including, chairman of the YMCA board, Rockford Park District and a founding board member of Visiting Nursing Association. He was past President of the Chamber of Commerce where he traveled internationally as an advocate for the development of business in the Rockford Area. After retiring he worked as Development Officer of Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI. In addition, he served on their Board of Trustees, and is in Hillsdale's Hall of Fame for Baseball. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Carol (John) Potter, Peter (Beatriz) Harnois, Libby (Thomas Kane) Harnois, and Robbie (Greg) Fast; grandchildren, Jesse, Grace, Madeleine, Patrick, Tref, Eric, and Charlie. He was predeceased by his parents. Memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, with the Reverend Randy Young officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following: Rockford Park District, Rockford YMCA, or Hillsdale College.
