Tommeco J. Brown

May 18, 1950 — July 19, 2020

Tommeco J. Brown, age 70, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020.

Tommeco was born in Rockford, IL on May 18, 1950, daughter of John Henry and Ella Mae (Roberts) Massenburg, Sr. She graduated from West High School where she excelled at many sports and later attended Rock Valley College to earn her teaching certificate. Tommeco married Garlyn C. Brown in December of 1972 in Rockford. He passed away December 12, 2018. Tommeco was a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she used her gift of singing in the choir, volunteered her time to help set up for luncheons and dinners and she faithfully attended bible study every week. She enjoyed arts, crafts and reading, especially her bible. She also enjoyed her time spent modeling in fashion fairs and for Mary Kay makeup. Tommeco loved to cook and bake for her family. She was strong, selfless, loving and forgiving to everyone. She gave to others, expecting nothing in return. Tommeco gave food to the poor and always kept clothing and necessities in her car so she could give them to anyone she saw was in need. She will be dearly missed by so many that knew and loved her.

Those left to honor Tommeco’s memory include her children, Tommeco Jones, Karla Jones, Gregory Brown (Mary Crockett) and Mariko (Kenneth) Page; grandchildren, Donte, Shyanne, Malachi, Tasha, Lamontay, Claudette, Eddie, Kwame, Nachi, Donhvin, Selena, Izaiah, Mya and Premier; a host of great-grandchildren; siblings, John Henry Massenburg, Jr., Karl Massenburg, Ellamajema Corry, Herthico Anderson, Shethico Fuller, Vas Massenburg, Israel Massenburg and William Massenburg; special friends, Gerraldine McClain, Glenna (Burton) Smith, Marsha Davis, Betty Beasley, Marjie Johnson and Shirley Moore; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents and husband. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Serenity Hospice and Home of Oregon for their kindness, care and compassion.
