Thomas "Tom" P. McMahon

Thomas “Tom” P. McMahon, age 85, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Tom was born in Rockford, IL on August 13, 1938, the son of Clyde and Betty (Naill) McMahon. He graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1956, where he was later inducted into the Harlem High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Tom married Gloria L. Carlson on August 22, 1959. He worked for Sundstrand Corporation for 35 dedicated years, having worked as a testman in Plant 8. Tom was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Rockford. He was a proud member of the Eagles Club, where he started the horseshoe league, as well as the Lombardi Club and LLL Club.

On Tom’s time off, he enjoyed planting his garden and working on cars. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and softball player, playing in many Sundstrand leagues. In his later years, Tom was able to coach his daughter and son in basketball for St. Edward’s school. He was his children and grandkids’ biggest fan, traveling all over to watch them play basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball, football and track. He loved gathering with family to watch the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Gloria McMahon; children, Jim (Janet) McMahon, Lynnette (Allen) Ketchum, Michael (Julie Spencer) McMahon, Paul (Lisa) McMahon and Judy (Steve) Stull; grandchildren, Daniel J. McMahon, Rachel (Daniel Kinney) McMahon, Stephanie Peterson (Rich Roehrig), Landon (Mackenzie) Ketchum, Jordyn McMahon, Kari McMahon (Dustin Nissen), Britta (Lucas) Munson, Brock, Halle, Sidney, and Addy Stull; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Cindy) McMahon, William (Connie) McMahon and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives. Predeceased by his parents and daughter, Christine.

The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice for their kindness, care, and compassion during their time with Tom and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom’s name to Northern Illinois Hospice.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
