Thomas Shawn Whitcomb

Thomas Shawn Whitcomb, 29, Poplar Grove, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born September 30, 1992, in Libertyville, the son of James and Lisa (Boulnois) Whitcomb. Thomas was a proud member of the Belvidere District 100 special education programming throughout his entire education.
Survived by his parents, Jim and Lisa; his siblings, Dinae Knox, Cassidy, Tessa, Travis, Joshua, Julia, Theo, Jackson, and Jason Whitcomb and Arnold McManis; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his 2 nieces, Ilyah and Imani Knox. Predeceased by his grandparents, and his Uncle Greg “Egg” and his Aunt Teresa. Thomas was a blessing to all who knew him. He thrived and inspired many in his life while living with a developmental disability caused by a traumatic brain injury and a seizure disorder. He loved bowling, swimming, watching Barney, Veggie Tales, Disney movies and swinging on any swing set possible. Some of his fondest memories were made at Camp Horizon, a camp for special needs children and adults through the Belvidere Park District. Thomas lived in a CILA home at Ottawa Friendship House in Ottawa, IL the last few years of his life. He enjoyed friendships with his housemates and staff alike. Thomas loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Fourth of July, mostly because of the fireworks. When at his happiest he could be found delightedly singing “twinkle twinkle little star”. We invite you to celebrate Thomas with us on Thursday by wearing colorful and vibrant clothing. We will miss Thomas every day but we will now rejoice in the fact he is at peace. He is healthy, whole and healed in Heaven.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until time of service on Thursday. Face masks will be required. Donations can be made in Thomas’ honor to Ottawa Friendship House 1718 N2525th Rd.
