Thomas R. "Tom" Gabel

Thomas R. “Tom” Gabel, 61, of Winnebago passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Mercyhealth Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Born June 20, 1956, in Rockford, the son of Wayne and Betty (Cropp) Gabel. Tom graduated in 1974 from Rockford Auburn High School. He married June Nacvich on July 14, 1990 at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton. Tom worked as a mechanic at Lou Bachrodt for many years, recently retiring. He enjoyed his animals, always taking his dogs for walks as well as cooking, especially grilling. He also enjoyed riding his Harley. Most of all Tom loved his family and spending time with his friends. He will be deeply missed.
Lovingly survived by his wife, June; daughter, Katie (Chandler) Carnock; stepson, Joseph O’Day; parents, Wayne and Betty Cropp; siblings, Gail (Denny) Hutchins, Jack (Linda) Gabel, Loretta DeGroat, Mary Mengelt, Julie (Mike) Cuccinelli and Bruce (Brenda) Gabel; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his sister, Barb Horsfall and brother, Mark Gabel.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Avenue. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Friday.
