Thomas "Tom" Grentz Thomas " Tom" Grentz, 45, of Loves Park, formerly of Belvidere, went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2009 at SwedishAmerican Hospital. Tom was born on July 16, 1964 in Detroit, MI, the son of Horst and Theresia (Walter) Grentz. Tom married Lisa Van De Velde in Sterling, IL on June 24, 1989. Tom attended Belvidere High School and graduated in 1982. He served as a PFC in the US Army for two years and was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran. Tom attended Rockford Business College and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 1988 and a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Catholic Church, a huge Michigan sports fan, a Rockford Ice Hogs fan, member of the IceHogs Booster Club, and collected hockey memorabilia. Tom was very meticulous with everything, especially his yard and enjoyed bringing laughter to his family and friends. Tom is survived by his wife, Lisa; parents, Horst and Theresia; siblings, Michael (Carolyn) Grentz, Rachel (Mark) Bixby and Anthony (Jennifer) Grentz; sister-in-law, Jennifer Van De Velde; two nieces; six nephews; feline companions, Pumpkin and Boo and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Tom was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marilyn and William Van De Velde; brother-in-law, Vincent Van De Velde, and grandparents, Gotthilf and Erna Grentz and Lorenz and Elisabeth Walter. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Ss John & Catherine Church, 310 S. Main St., Mt. Carroll, IL 61053. Burial will be in Fairhaven Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2009 from 4 8 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church.
