Thomas E. Hagan, 87, beloved husband, father and papa passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was born in Chicago, IL on July 15, 1934 to John W. and Edmie Marie (Bergin) Hagan.
In 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hammond, IN, he married the love of his life, Alice LaMantia. Thomas was a resident of Rockford, IL for 58 years and was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He served his country in The United States Army during the Korean War and graduated from business school in Chicago. Thomas was a salesman his entire career, spending most of those years in the paper and packaging industry. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed playing poker with his poker club. Thomas was a music lover who loved Frank Sinatra and had a large music collection and he was known as “The Movie Man”, sharing his movie collection with his family and friends to enjoy. He loved to entertain, laugh and tell jokes. Thomas was larger than life, the life of the party, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Carol Jeanne (Robert) Kirk and Michael Hagan; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kristy) Kirk, Dr. Jason Kirk, Emily (Logan) Brock, Robert (Amanda) Kirk and Alex and Lucas Hagan; 8 great grand-children; brother, John W. Hagan Jr and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice, in 2020; daughter Laurie Ann Hagan in 1980 and parents.
Thomas’ family extends a special thank you to the staff at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital.
A visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. Funeral Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church will be private. Private inurnment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Those in attendance for any of the services will be required to wear masks and social distance.
