Thomas E. ""Tom"" Chambers, 75, a lifelong resident of Rockford, went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2008. Tom was born March 2, 1933 in Rockford the son of Thomas E., Sr. and Elizabeth (Davey) Chambers. He married his high school sweetheart Carol Brentner on December 29, 1951. Tom graduated from West High School where he played basketball for Coach Saudargas and the Warriors. Tom was employed by Brentner Trucking, DeWall Trucking and A & B Freight Lines over a period of 43 years. He was a member of Maywood Evangelical Free Church where he worked with Awana. He was previously a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years, as well as an usher. After he retired from trucking he worked part time for Target. Tom enjoyed Bible study and had memorized a great many Bible verses. He also loved to walk around the neighborhood and walk the beach in South Padre, Texas. Tom never met a stranger. Tom is survived by his wife, Carol; sons Donald (Diana) and Duane (Mary Jo his daughters, Diane (Dennis) Bonacquisti, Denise (Kent) Johnson, Deidre Logan and Debra (Mark) Savala; his son-in-law, Kent Logan; his grandchildren, Kimberly LaRue, Jessica Shobe, Valerie Lightheart and Tom Chambers; Jenna Bonacquisti; Elizabeth and Catherine Chambers and Natalie Crosby; Kelly, Kari and Katie Johnson; Kyle, Jarred, Chelsie, Dillon and Maura Logan; and Rob and Joe Savala; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Albert and Robert; his sister-in-law, Betty Freeling and brother-in-law, Jon Brentner; several nieces and nephews, and a great many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law and his great-granddaughter Lola Crosby. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 from 5 8 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Family and friends will meet on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 12:30 PM at Maywood Evangelical Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Rd., Rockford for a memorial service to be held at 1 PM with Pastor David Currie officiating.
