Thomas E. Castrey

Thomas Edward Castrey, 59, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 22 in Rockford, IL. Tom was born on August 24th, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois, to James and Mary Castrey. He attended Holy Family and Assumption High School and graduated in 1976. He spent his younger days in Decatur, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa, before moving to Rockford. Tom spend his entire life working in the transportation industry. He was the proud owner of F.A.C.T.S. Freight Auditing for nearly 30 years.
Tom was an avid motorcycle rider and loved to spend time on many motorcycle adventures, both near and far. He also loved canoeing and kayaking, especially his annual birthday trip with his family. Tom collected all things presidential and often planned vacations around visiting presidential libraries. Tom was a supportive, loving grandfather and could always be found at his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
Tom is survived by his wife Judy (Coble) of 40 years, daughter Melissa (Gabriel) Torres of Poplar Grove, son Travis (Summer) Castrey of New Milford, son Jacob (Brooke) Castrey of Rockford; parents James and Mary Castrey of Bettendorf, IA; brother Christopher (Stacy) Castrey and sisters Debra (Bobby) Castrey-King, Patricia (Miguel) Umana, and Lori (David) Emerick, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a very proud grandfather of grandchildren Avarie, Annabella, Isabel, Elizabeth, Thailer, and Sierra.
Tom is predeceased by granddaughter Natasia Castrey and grandparents Margaret and Edward Castrey and Willis and Marie Cupp.
Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, on Friday, December 29 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church on Saturday, December 30th, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Winnebago, IL. Fitzgerald Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
