Theresa C. Torchia, 94, Rockford, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in the home of her daughter, surrounded by loving family members. Born May 2, 1928 in Rockford, daughter of Alberto ad Alberta Abate Pumilia. Married Henry A. Torchia, Sr. on January 3, 1948. Long time member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Theresa was very artistic and made beautiful floral arrangements and decorations. Her cooking skills, especially cookie baking, were like no other with one taste leaving an impression for decades. People waited all year for her Christmas cookies. She was a super star champion at playing bocce and loved playing and competing. She also loved having and going to garage sales. She always seemed to be able to make a party out of every garage sale she had. Most of all, her life revolved around her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and homemaker. She always had to make sure that each family member was O.K. She was a very sweet and giving person. She loved every day with unconditional love.
Survivors include her children, Rosalie (Virgil,Jr.) Toepfer, MaryAnn (Michael) Cotti and Henry (Lisa) Torchia; grandchildren, Anthony (Angela) Toepfer, Virgil (Angie) Toepfer III, Andrea (Teddy) Berry, Amie (Toru) Nogami, Theresa McDermott, Michael (Natalie) McDermott, Joseph (Amber) McDermott, Steven (Jenny) McDermott, Ryan Torchia, Andrew Torchia and Alexander Torchia; great-grandchildren, Caylee, Kyle, Taylor Giana, Alivia, Cody, T.J., Tyler, Sophia, Jazmin, Matthew, Mamie, Mary, Aaliyah, Michaiah, Malachi, Isla, Ian, Noah, Amiya, Amelia, Jackson and Bella. Also survived by several special nieces and nephews who were like her own children and the father of five of her grandchildren Michael McDermott, Sr. Predeceased by her husband Henry on October 6, 1998, her son, Salvatore Torchia on February 13th 2013, two infant sons Samuel and Andrew, numerous siblings, and special sister-in-law, Frances Pumilia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 19th in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. And will continue Monday, June 20th from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home prior to Mass. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
