Theophelo M. Quinonez

Theophelo “Tuffy” Quinonez, 76, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023. He was born on January 31, 1947, in Chicago, IL, the son of Tiofilo (Ted) M. and Alberta M. (Martinez) Quinonez.

Tuffy had a lifelong Catholic Faith. He was a 1965 Graduate of West High School and attended Lincoln Barber College and served his country in the United States Army. Tuffy was the founder of Mexican Business Association, RMBA and a member of American Legion, VFW, Navy Club, Club Patriotico Mexicano (CPM), Lo Vox Latina, Latin American Community Organization, Delegate of the 7th Street VFW in Rockford, Association of Clubs and the Broadway Business Association. He held elected positions as an Alderman with the City of Rockford and Board Member for Winnebago County. In his spare time, he enjoyed flea markets and estate sales, playing darts in dart leagues and participating in car shows with his 1955 Buick. Tuffy’s life revolved around helping others in the community in any way he could and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Tuffy is survived by his daughter, Martine (Johnny) Guerrero; grandchildren, Dominic and Angelino Guerrero; siblings, Celena Quinonez and Frank Carmona; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Rockford and San Antonio. Preceded in death by his mother, brother, Thomas M. Quinonez and sister-in-law, Josephine Carmona.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, IL 61111. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory – Mulford Chapel.
