Tekla Vilkauss of Rockford died December 7, 2010 at Provena Cor Mariae Center where she received excellent care for over 5 years. Born August 25, 1911 in Latvia and she was married to Konstantins for 68 years. She lived in Chicago for 55 years where she was a member of St. Francis Borgia Parish. She retired from Radio Steel Co. where she was a well respected employee. In 1944, Tekla's family was forced to leave Riga, Latvia, becoming WWII Refugees living in Oldenburg, Germany. In 1951, Tekla, her husband and daughter legally entered the USA and later became USA citizens. Tekla was a giving person who loved children and loved to entertain family and friends in her home. She loved to grow flowers, enjoyed choir concerts and various Latvian cultural events. Survivors include her daughter Mara (Eugene) Pocs; four grandsons, Paul (Velta) Pocs of Rockford, Martin (Christy) Pocs of Denver, Arnis (Krystal) Pocs of Phoenix, David (Jennifer) Pocs of Denver and great-grandchildren; Erica, Nadia, Lara, Lilija, Elena, Sofia and Larsen. Holy Mass will be at Provena Cor Mariae Chapel, 3330 Maria Linden Dr. in Rockford on December 10, at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation prior at 9:30 a.m. Private interment Saturday, December 11 th in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chicago. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory of Rockford. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established by the family.
