"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.
Tami Jo Zellmer: 10.25.68-10.3.2024
Here we are again, in this rich process of both celebrating a life well lived, and grieving at the transition of death.
On this bright sunny day in October, just shy of her birthday, Tami passed away, peacefully in her bed at the Joshua House. Supported mightily by Compassus Hospice, her Guardian, Services Inc, her health care providers and her dedicated Avancer Homes and Genesis DTC staff, Tami had a quiet death and transitioned out of this world and into the next world.
Tami moved to Genesis House in 1990 as a 21 year old young lady. She tended to run from place to place, was independent in her ADL's (altho stubborn about them!); would mimic other's speech and has the tightest, most fierce hugs you can imagine. If Tami didn't want to eat, she would stubbornly refuse to eat and would often 'pocket' her meds in her cheeks.
Tami's parents were from Park Ridge and would visit periodically with her old brother (also with some developmental disabilities). After Dad moved to Arkansas, he and Tami's step mom would drive their camper up north each summer, park in our parking lot and spend a few days visiting with Tami. Tami's dad also pre-deceased her.
For all of these years....Tami has been 'ours' and continued to be in our care. We are honored to have been in her life for 34+ years! And of course we were honored to remain her family and care-givers until she made it to the afterlife.
May she rest in peace. May her memory be a blessing.
