Sverre K. Grimstad

Sverre K. Grimstad, 90, Rockford, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, December 25, 2009 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born September 25, 1919 in Sarpsborg, Norway, son of Edwin and Marie Ganstag Grimstad. Married Solway Mathisen in Norway on October 25, 1941. While in Norway he was employed by Hafslund Farm and when he came to Rockford he worked at Landstrom Furniture and Kinroth amp; Sons. He retired in 1985 from Rockford Screw Products after many years as a machinist. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for 61 years, a life member of Sons of Norway and a former long time member of the Moose Club. Sverre loved his family and was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn Langsholt; son, Steinar (Sheryl) Grimstad; grandchildren, Tina Marie (Jim) Johnson and Paul Erland Langsholt; great-grandchildren, AnnDee Lynn Johnson and Jimmy Johnson; special friend, Cory Tenney; sister-in-law, Betty Lindquist and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Solway on July 17, 1999 and two brothers and two sisters in Norway.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements were completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Condolences and memories can be shared at www.fitzgerald fh.com.
