Suzette "Sue" A. Symes

Suzette “Sue” A. Symes, 74, Belvidere, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017, at Anam Care in Rockford, ending a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born December 10, 1942, in Chicago, the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Vernsten) Fivaz. Sue received her BS in Economics from Denison University, Granville, OH. She married Stephen “Steve” Symes in Park Ridge on May 11, 1968. Sue was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where she was active in many areas including the St. Mark library. She was primarily a homemaker but also worked at Peat Marwick Mitchell, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Manpower, and most recently at H & R Block. Sue was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and was active in Junior League and the Wild Ones. She volunteered in many areas including Tinker Swiss Cottage, Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden, and the East High Booster Club.
Survived by her husband Steve; her son, Scott (Irene) Symes of Port Washington, WI and her daughter, Sandra (Mike) Genovese of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Marie Fiacchino, Ethan Symes, Adele and Ruby Genovese; her brother, Louis Fivaz of Park Ridge. Predeceased by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 15, 2017, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 675 N. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. on Friday at the church. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden, 2715 S. Main St. Rockford, 61102, in her name.
