Susan Kay Smith-Gable

Susan Kay Smith Gable, 69, Cherry Valley, passed away peacefully September 18, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born January 5, 1945, in Rockford, the daughter of Monroe and Ida (Larson) Johnson. She graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1963. She married Ernest Smith on June 15, 1963. He passed away May 4, 2004. She married Ward Gable on February 11, 2006. Susan worked as the credit manager at Rockford Products for 45 years. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and going to the casino, but most of all Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survived by her husband, Ward; children, Sherri (Doug) Hamby of Rochelle, Amber Smith of Rockford, James (Synda) Gable of Cherry Valley, and Lisa Gable of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Vanessa (Chase) Overbeeke, Corynn Hamby, Adrienne Gulatto, Londyn Skoglund, Aiden Ahmer, Jamison Gable, and Kennedy Fray; great-grandchildren, Talise, Isla, and Tige Overbeeke; brothers, Robert, William (Loretta), Vernon, Leroy, John (Shirley), Tom (Kathy); sisters, Patricia Dodd, Joyce (Floyd) Stephens, Carol (Joseph) Strang, Shirley (James) Erboe, and Doris Dyreson.; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Georgetta (Ron) Chavers; brother-in-law, Charlie (Pam) Smith. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Gene; sister, Beatrice and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, Anne Johnson, Dorothy Johnson and Betty Johnson; brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson, Norm Dodd and Jerry Dyreson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Fitzgerald funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Brenda Bryne officiating. Private family burial in Carman Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
