Steven "Steve" J. Severing

Steven “Steve” J. Severing, 71, Machesney Park, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was born February 19, 1951, in Rockford, the son of Charles and Mary Ellen (Johnson) Severing. Steve was raised attending Beth Eden United Methodist Church with his family. He attended Milton College, where he became an avid hockey player, and later went on to coach for the Rockford Hockey Club. Steve worked for Schmeling Construction Company until his retirement. He then became a professional bass fisherman. He oversaw tournaments from La Crosse, WI all the way to Bull Shoals, AR. He was the anchor that held Angler’s Edge safe and solid in rough waters. He maintained many lifelong friendships and business relationships with the folks in Flippin, AR at Vexus Boats.

Steve is survived by his brothers and sisters, Richard (Marie) Severing of Janesville, WI; Ken (Jeannie Snow) Severing of La Habra, CA; Jerry (Jane) Severing of Briggsville, WI; Salli (Jim) Ratts of Englewood, CO; Susie (Chuck) Daggett of Elton, LA; and David (Sue) Severing of Loves Park; several nieces and nephews and his best friend, E.J. Dilonardo. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Ellen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Beth Eden United Methodist Church, 3201 Huffman Blvd with Steve’s nephew, Reverend Jarrod Severing officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service. A luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the service.
