Steven L. Poynor, 56, of Rockford died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 in the comfort of his home after a courageous 9 month battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born March 27, 1957, in Rockford, the son of Bob and Rheta (Miller) Poynor. Graduated from Jefferson High School in 1975, and married his loving wife Laurie Wright on July 10, 1975 in Rockford. Steve was a volunteer firefighter for Cherry Valley Fire Protection District from 1991-1996 and was then appointed to the Cherry Valley Fire Board of Trustees as Treasurer from 1997-2011. He was then appointed President of the Board in 2011 – present. He was instrumental in moving the department from a volunteer department to a full-time department. Steve was the Vice President and General Manager of LDR Cleaning and Restoration for the past 12 years. He loved riding his Harley (always with Laurie on the back!), loved the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals, and was very meticulous when it came to his lawn. He was an active member of the LLL Society since 2005. Steve loved being "Papa" to his three grandchildren and was so proud of his son and daughter and their spouses and loved spending every extra moment he had with them. He was a wonderful, caring, funny man who will be missed dearly by all who had a chance to know him. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the OSF Center for Cancer Care; Dr. Sreenivasappa; the nurses and staff of 4 west at OSF; the CVFPD for always being there and for bringing Steve home for the final time.
