Loves Park

Stephen “Steve” Kretsinger, 79, of Loves Park, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. Steve was born in Rockford, IL on July 28th of 1945 to Donald and Elizabeth (Fulton) Kretsinger. He married the love of his life, Kathy, on October 23, 1965, at Holy Family Catholic Church here in Rockford. Steve was a proud union member and dedicated 39 years of service to Lucent Technologies. In his free time, he especially enjoyed golfing and traveling; specifically cruising with his family and friends. Hawaii, Alaska, and the Mediterranean were just some of the sights he got to see, but The Villages in Florida were one of his favorite places to visit. He and Kathy took many walks, enjoying the surrounding nature and just spending time with friends. Steve will mostly be remembered for his gentle and kind heart, those who knew him will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathy; daughters, Julie (Bill) Voltz, Susan (Todd) Schuring; grandchildren, Andy Voltz (Dayana Mora), Cameron Schuring (Jordan Boyd); sister, Marje (David) Hodgkins; sister-in-law, Connie (Al) Fox; brother-in-law, Roger (Barb) McKelvey; cousin, Margaret (Dr. Michael) Hayes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth.

The family would like to give a special ‘thank you’ to the wonderful staff at Anam Memory Care and Northern Illinois Hospice for their care of Steve.
