Stanley P. Podeszwa, 93, Rockford, died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born May 4, 1916, son of Joseph and Amelia Sikora Podeszwa. Married Edna Hanson on May 8, 1940. Member of the Civilian Conservation Corps serving on projects in Michigan and northern Illinois. Charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he was active in many aspects of the church, including being a Sunday School teacher and a member of the bell choir. Stan has been a Winnebago County Deputy Sheriff, a police officer officer on the Rockford Police Department, and co-owner of West End Merchant Police. He worked security for the Experimental Aircraft Association both in Rockford and Osh Kosh, WI and was Chief of Civil Defense. Following retirement, he was employed by McFarlands Office Equipment and Schlatters. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Edna; sons, Terry (Laurie) Podeszwa, Cherry Valley, David (Luanne) Podeszwa, Greenfield, WI and Randy (Coreen) Podeszwa, Rockford; daughter, Sue (Steve) Murr, Machesney Park; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 daughters-in-law and 3 grandchildren. Funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 in Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. George David officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. Friday until time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Arrangements were completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N.
